Why choosing the right Origin matters

In Bloodborne you don’t pick a traditional class — you pick an Origin, which simply defines your starting stat spread (level, Vitality, Endurance, Strength, Skill, Bloodtinge, Arcane) and initial Blood Echoes.
Although all Origins are viable, your initial choices will influence your early game experience (weapons you can wield, your survivability, how flexible you can be). Once you progress, you’re free to build your character as you desire, but starting from a friendly base helps.

Tip: If you’re new to the game, pick an Origin with higher Vitality or general balance so you can survive more mistakes

Understanding the Stats

Here’s a breakdown of the main attributes you’ll work with:

StatWhat it affectsNotes
VitalityGoverns your HP (how much damage you can take)Diminishing returns after ~30, soft cap ~50
EnduranceGoverns your stamina (attacks, dodging)Soft cap around ~40 for stamina gains.
StrengthAffects heavy/large‐weapons & their damageReturns diminish after ~25, and more after ~50.
SkillAffects fast/dexterity weapons, visceral damageSimilar caps to Strength after ~25–50.
BloodtingeAffects firearms & some Bloodtinge‐based weaponsNeeds specific investment; less early game.
ArcaneAffects certain elemental/arcane weapons & toolsComplex to use; best for more experienced players.

Tip:Focus on building around the weapon or style you enjoy, rather than trying to make a perfect all-rounder.
